How To Make The Most Of A Spring Session
April is here, and it’s the perfect time to book that portrait session you’ve been dreaming of! Whether you’re planning a family session, a senior shoot, or a couple's portrait, getting ready for your spring photoshoot can make all the difference in capturing beautiful images. Here’s your go-to guide for preparing for your spring portrait session!
Dress for the Season: Layering is Key
- April’s weather can be a bit unpredictable, so layer up! Bring jackets or scarves for those cooler moments, and remember they also make great props! Soft, breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, and light knits work great for spring.
- Don’t forget the shoes! If we're in a park or a garden, practical footwear is a necessity - I even recommend walking shoes and then you can change them for photos!
Embrace Spring Colors
- Spring is all about fresh, vibrant colors - think pastel shades, soft florals, or light earthy tones that complement the natural scenery. If you're unsure, consider light neutrals like tan, white, or light gray since these tones pop beautifully against spring's colorful backdrop.
- For family sessions, try coordinating outfits without being too matchy. I usually recommend a color palette instead of one solid color.
Choose the Right Location
- Botanical gardens, parks, and flower fields are amazing places to capture the essence of spring. Look for spots where you can take advantage of blooming flowers or lush greenery, like blossoming trees or flower gardens.
- Don’t be afraid to think outside the box! Sometimes a local street with flowering trees or even an urban park can add a fun contrast to your shoot.
Prepare for Allergies
- Spring means pollen, and for some, that can cause a little discomfort. If you or anyone in your group suffers from allergies, plan ahead with allergy medication or tissues. You don’t want sneezing to get in the way of your photos! I can also help suggest locations if that is a major concern!
By taking the time to prepare for your session, you'll be able to relax and fully enjoy the experience. Spring is a magical time to capture those perfect moments with loved ones, and with just a little preparation, you'll be able to make the most it!
