Headshots & Branding - The WHO Behind You

When you think of the face behind a company or brand, I bet you think of an actual face. The person that represents a company is crucial! Business cards, "about me" pages, billboards - we see faces everywhere and I'm gonna be honest I pay more attention to the ones that have photos of people. I like to know who I'll be talking to or working with, but maybe that's just because I'm a photographer!

The awesome part about headshots today is that most companies don't have requirements or specifications meaning it's up to you! So whether you choose to do them in a studio or outdoors, the goal is to show off who you are as a person. Here are my recommendations and tips to create a successful headshot:

  1. Choose a comfortable but stylish outfit: the key here is to wear something that fits you and helps show off who you are as a person. If you usually wear a certain color because it makes you feel more confident, or if you have a favorite shirt that still can look professional that might be a good angle.
  2. Hair and makeup that suits you: similarly, you want your headshot to look like you so I always recommend a makeup look similar to what you normally wear and choosing a hairstyle that doesn't take the focus off of you.
  3. Location: I love an outdoor headshot session because it opens the door for so many opportunities, but studio has its perks too. If you're an outdoorsy person or it represents something in your business, you might want to consider an outdoor session. If you're looking for a simpler look, or if the weather may not cooperate when you're scheduling then studio may fit better.
  4. Relax: at the end of the day, take a deep breath and know you shine best when you're calm. Everything will work out and we'll work together to make sure you get a headshot that works for what you're needing, so enjoy getting all dressed up and getting to feel like a model for a little while!
